If you’re a federal employee, Department of Energy worker, coal miner, or longshore worker suffering from a work-related injury or illness, you may be entitled to federal workers’ compensation benefits. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) provides benefits to workers in a variety of occupations and their families.

Federal Workers’ Compensation Claims
The OWCP provides disability benefits through its four divisions:
- Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOJC)
Nuclear weapons workers suffering from work-related injuries or illnesses and survivors of deceased nuclear workers are eligible for benefits under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program. - Division of Federal Employees’ Compensation (DFEC)
Workers’ compensation benefits for most federal workers, including postal workers, are provided for under the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act. - Division of Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation (DLHWC)
Maritime workers—such as longshore workers, shipbuilders, and harbor construction workers—and their families are eligible for benefits when injuries or occupational illnesses cause death or disability. - Division of Coal Mine Workers’ Compensation (DCMWC)
Also called the Federal Black Lung Program, the Coal Mine Workers’ Compensation program provides compensation to miners totally disabled by pneumoconiosis—or black lung disease—and to survivors of miners who die from the disease.
